It’s coming to that time of year when we decide on what we want to do in the coming months or in the next year.
It’s a strange time of year when we may decide to set goals for next year and therefore stop with the action at the end of the year – because next year will do.
Aren’t there things you could still complete this year that would allow you to start next year up-skilled and empowered? Are you putting off investing in yourself?
How about an NLP Practitioner Trainer or a Love Audit? 🙂
Back to those goals and dreams.
I’ve been considering what goals I would like to set for the next month and the remainder of the year. And that has reminded me of some of the key reasons we don’t succeed at our goals and we decide not to even attempt to achieve the life of our dreams.
Picture the scene. You sitting next to a log fire having a pleasant drink, feeling warm and secure and your imagination is running free. You can see all of your dreams in front of you. You can see a different life, a magnificent future for yourself and your family. And you are sharing freely… what you’re going to do and who you are going to be. You’re excited and enthusiastic.
You decide that this is it. This is your dream, your future, your passion. You are going to make changes, you are going to go for it and you know you can do it because you can feel it in the depths of you.
You’ve set the goals, you’ve weighed up the consequences and the impacts and you feel good. Everyone will benefit.
Here are the common things that can shatter your dreams before the end of the week if you allow them…
1 – Dream Killer: Taking on the opinion and advice of people who have never succeeded.
If someone has had similar dreams to you and have never even taking half of the first step to putting their toe in the water they are not the people who are likely to support you and tell you how achievable your dreams are.
Because if they believed that they would have done the work, they would have stepped up and faced the fear and their future in the face and gone for it.
Yet these are often the very people we will look to for advice.
Look to the people who have already achieved what you want to do if you want honest, upfront advice and encouragement. And if someone has already achieved it then there is every possibility that you can too.
2 – Dream Killer: You get caught up in the enormity of the ‘how’
If you have a big dream it will tend to take a big ‘how’ to achieve it. A big ‘how’ that you really don’t need to contemplate.
Focus on the first steps. What are the things you can do that will move you closer. What action can you take that will sow the seeds and open up the opportunities and possibilities?
Let go of wanting to know and control the ‘how’.
Leave the miracles and the timely coincidences up to the universe. That’s what it’s therefore.
Remember how you eat an elephant, one small elephant nugget at a time.
3 – Dream Killer: You are afraid of your own success
When you contemplate the new life, the dream, you are filled with a fear of what that means for you.
Will it be more responsibility?
Will it take effort and consistency?
Will you have to ‘show up’ as the empowered, responsible creator of your life that you are? Will you have to shine and step up and into the spotlight?
Will it change everything that you are familiar with?
Will you have to step way out of the familiar and the comfortable?
And of course the answer to all of these questions, if you want to achieve a life changing, enormous dream is yes! Otherwise it wouldn’t be a life changing and enormous dream.
It’s up to you to decide that this is really what you want.
Can you really see, hear and feel yourself living it?
Do you know that you can achieve it?
Are your values and beliefs, your inner voice and the whole of your being aligned with it?
How much do you want to achieve it?
Will you be willing to achieve it?
More Potential Dream crushers…..
If you are not confident and do not have the unshakeable self belief that you can achieve what you want, and you don’t have that burning desire, alignment and clarity about the life of your dreams or that goal you want to achieve, then how successful do you feel you will be in making the changes, taking the action and staying motivated when challenges crop up?
The one thing certain about setting a goal or wanting to achieve something is that immediately you set that goal obstacles are created.
If there were no obstacles you would have achieved the goal already.
Step up. Get Passionate, get motivated, get excited about you and your future. Knock doubt on the head and be the protector of your dreams.
